Richland One’s Columbia High receives National Showcase Schools award

June 2, 2022

Columbia High School is one of only eight schools in South Carolina to receive the 2021-2022 Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools award. The designation is given annually to schools that implement processes to enhance the culture and climate of their schools.

“Developing a positive relationship with students is the key to creating a healthy and safe school environment,” said Columbia High Principal Craig Washington. “Our work with Capturing Kids’ Hearts has strengthened our relationships with our students and allows Columbia High to support (them) more effectively.”

The selection process involves measuring key performance indicators, gathering school data and surveying staff and students concerning their educational environment.

Capturing Kids’ Hearts celebrates schools and other educational facilities where educators are exceeding expectations and creating an environment where students feel safe, connected and eager to learn. This year’s selection process began with 608 campuses and resulted in 378 awardees, including Columbia High.
