Richland Two student wins Magnet Schools of America Poster Contest

April 21, 2022

Samantha Williams, a fifth-grade student at Sandlapper Elementary School, was selected as the first-place winner in the 2022 Magnet Schools of America (MSA) Poster Contest for the elementary school level.  Students had an option to express one or all five of MSA’s pillars that include: Diversity, Innovative Curriculum and Professional Development, Academic Excellence, Leadership, and Family and Community Partnerships. Samantha won by brilliantly expressing all five pillars.

To create her poster, Samantha used digital imaging techniques to create a collage of her personal connections to the five pillars. She included water-colored images that demonstrated her connections to Civil Rights, a love for mathematics and dance, and career aspirations in the field of medicine that have been fueled by her school work in Sandlapper’s Computer Science Immersion School.

Additionally, Samantha placed her family portrait in the upper left corner. She chose to use this image as a hidden treat because it best represents the importance of a good family, community, and school partnership. She also included a Star to represent her Sandlapper Stars family.
