Richland Two teacher named 2015–2016 Teaching Ambassador Fellow

COLUMBIA, SC — Blythewood High School Teacher Patrick Kelly has been named as a 2015–2016 Teaching Ambassador Fellow by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Kelly is only one of nine teachers from around the nation and the only South Carolina teacher to receive this honor.

“Like previous fellows, through their unique expertise and outreach, these educators will add tremendously to our ability to engage and elevate teachers as they work to help all of our students excel and access a great future,” said Duncan.

Now in its eighth year, the Teaching Ambassador Fellowship Program was created to give outstanding teachers an opportunity to learn about national policy issues in education and to contribute their expertise to those discussions. The role is a paid position in which Fellows share what they’ve learned with others, contributing to a greater understanding of federal initiatives. They also provide broader input into policy and programs designed to improve education at all levels. Kelly will remain in the classroom at Blythewood High School while he participates in the program.

“Patrick has dedicated his life to education and is a fine example of a teacher who cares deeply for the success of his students,” said Superintendent Debbie Hamm. “We are very proud that he will help to shape the future of education in our district, our state and our nation.”
