Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder

November 12, 2014

Sunday, November 16th at 3&8pm

Ricky Skaggs a 14-time Grammy Award winner whose name has become synonymous with both bluegrass and country music. Will be at the Newberry Opera House on Sunday, November 16, 3 & 8 PM. With more than fifty years in the music-making business, his songs transcend time and transport his audiences through the best of what bluegrass has to offer.

Bluegrass master Skaggs will perform  hits like “Songs My Daddy Loved,” “Mosaic,” “Crying My Heart Out Over You.”, all of which show his  his passion and his love for this truly American music. With an abundance of talent, a lifetime of musical experience, and a great band behind him. Ricky Skaggs is well on his way to showing the world that “country rocks, but bluegrass rules!”

Skaggs’ career is easily among the most significant in recent country / bluegrass music history. If Skaggs’ burgeoning trophy case full of  awards wasn’t already enough evidence of that fact, consider that legendary guitarist Chet Atkins once credited Skaggs with “single-handedly saving country music.” His life’s path has taken him to various musical genres, from where it all began in bluegrass music, to striking out on new musical journeys, while still leaving his musical roots intact.

Ricky struck his first chords on a mandolin over 50 years ago, and he continues to do his part to lead the recent roots revival. Clearly his passion for it puts him in the position to bring his lively, distinctively American form of music out of isolation and into the ears and hearts of audiences across the country and around the world. Ricky Skaggs is always forging ahead with cross-cultural, genre-bending musical ideas and inspirations. Skaggs is bluegrass music’s official ambassador. Accompanying him will be his amazing bluegrass band, Kentucky Thunder . They are 8-time winners of the IBMA ‘Instrumental Group of the Year’.
