COLUMBIA, SC – The boys’ basketball program at Ridge View High School has a new head coach. Yerrick Stoneman comes to Richland Two from Virginia. He was an Assistant Gold Team Coach at the elite Oak Hill Academy for 11 years. Stoneman says his passion for basketball is life-long.

“My love for the game began at an early age, and I played throughout my high school career and on the junior varsity team at Virginia Tech.  While attending Virginia Tech, I served as the Student Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach for the 1994-1995 NIT Championship season under the leadership of Coach Bill Foster and Coach Bobby Hussey.”

Stoneman expressed appreciation for the confidence Principal Dr. Brenda Mack-Foxworth and Ridge View Athletic Director Brian Rosefield have in him to lead the basketball program.

“I am honored to be hired as the next head coach. I am looking forward to continuing to build a strong and successful program, and I’m eager to meet the players, parents, and fans,” said Stoneman.

While at Oak Hill Academy, Stoneman coached 58 players who played Division I College Basketball. He was also instrumental in the player development and maturation of NBA stars, including Carmelo Anthony, DeSagana Diop, Kevin Durant, Brandon Jennings, Rajon Rondo, and Josh Smith.

Renowned Oak Hill Academy Head Basketball Coach Steve Smith stated, “During the 10 plus years Yerrick was my top assistant, he helped us win five high school National Championships and produce more than a dozen McDonalds All-Americans. Yerrick is a player’s coach and a tremendous role model for the student-athletes he coaches.”

Most recently, Stoneman was Head Girls Basketball, Volleyball and Track Coach at Galax High School in Virginia. Rosefield says his experiences working with high-level, student-athletes at Oak Hill plus his work at Galax High have prepared him for success at Ridge View.

“Coach Stoneman has a passion for developing young men in to better people and basketball players, helping them get to the next level, and he will bring an exciting brand of basketball to the Ridge View community,” said Rosefield.

Stoneman succeeds John Combs who has taken a coaching position at Ben Lippen School. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education and Health from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, VA. Stoneman plans to meet players and their parents on Tuesday, May 31 at 5 p.m. at Ridge View. The media is invited to meet the coach at 5:45 p.m. Stoneman will be the fourth person to lead the boys’ varsity basketball program.
