37 years ago, on September 10th 1983, RMHC Charleston opened its doors to families who had to travel to Charleston for their children’s complex medical needs. Because of you, our donors and volunteers, we have been able to keep thousands of families together and near the medical care they need ever since, even during a pandemic.
2020 didn’t turn out quite the way anyone planned. Among the many challenges we’ve faced, RMHC Charleston was forced to cancel and postpone fundraising events which generate much needed funds to help support families staying at the House, sometimes for months on end, as their children heal at MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.
The Shell family, who stayed for 67 nights while their little girl Ashlyn received a bone marrow transplant, knows the impact your support has on our families. ‘Our family stayed at RMHC Charleston for 2 months following the transplant, and there aren’t enough thank you’s in this world for our time there. Keeping our family close was always our goal and the House did that and more! Thank you so much for loving us, feeding us, playing with our kids, and most of all, keeping families close!’- Alexandra Shell
