Rock for Recovery this September, National Recovery Month

COLUMBIA, SC – September is National Recovery Month and Healing Families is celebrating that recovery from substance use disorders is possible Addiction to alcohol or drugs is a disease that is preventable and treatable thanks to programs and services in the Midlands at LRADAC (Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council).

Healing families is honoring recovery with the inaugural Rock for Recovery event. To raise awareness and support for treatment and recovery, volunteers will be in rocking chairs on Main Street in Columbia during lunch hours on Sept. 16, 17 and 18 and at the Soda City Farmers Market on Sept. 19.

Volunteers will accept cash donations in support of the Recovery Scholarship Fund.  This fund allows Healing Families to provide financial assistance to families who cannot afford to send their loved one to treatment for addiction.

Additionally, local artist Ernest Lee, known as the “Chicken Man,” has painted a rocking chair for Healing Families to auction.
