S.C. Bar House of Delegates to Meet in Columbia May 3

COLUMBIA, SC – April 25, 2012 – The South Carolina Bar will hold itsHouse of Delegates meeting Thursday, May 3, at 12 p.m. at the SouthCarolina Bar Conference Center in Columbia. During its meeting, theHouse is expected to debate:

  • a request from the Practice and Procedure Committee to amend Rule4, SCRCP, to allow service of process by commercial delivery services;
  • a request from the Practice and Procedure Committee to make time limits uniform for post-trial motions;
  • a request from the Practice and Procedure Committee to add aprovision regarding the manner for computing time requirements in theSCRCrimP;
  • a request from the Pro Bono Committee to adopt a payment in lieu of service option for pro bono service;
  • a request from the Pro Bono Committee to collect pro bono data on the Bar license fee statement;
  • proposed constitution and bylaw amendments; and  
  • proposed Bar budgets for 2012-12.

The House will also elect members of the Bar’s Nominating Committee.Outgoing President A. Marvin Quattlebaum Jr. will address the House onthe progress of current initiatives, and incoming President Angus H.Macaulay will present goals for the coming year. The Young Lawyer of theYear and Law Related Education Lawyer of the Year Awards will bepresented, and graduates of the Bar’s Leadership Academy will berecognized.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the following 2012-13 Bar Presidentand officers will be sworn into office by S.C. Supreme Court ChiefJustice Jean H. Toal.
