S.C. BlueCross Appoints Deyling Senior V.P. of Major Group Unit

Columbia, S.C. – BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina has promoted James A. Deyling to senior vice president overseeing the company’s large accounts unit.

In his new role, Deyling is responsible for leading the continued growth of insured and administrative services lines of the major group business within the BlueCross BlueShield division. Reporting directly to David Pankau, president of the BlueCross BlueShield division, Deyling will manage sales, marketing, underwriting and operations.

He comes to this position from the group and individual unit, another part of the BlueCross BlueShield division that serves individuals and small accounts.

Deyling spent nine years at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Ohio prior to joining BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina in 1992 as direct response marketing director for the Group and Individual unit.  A year later, he was promoted to marketing director, with additional responsibility for product development, product promotions, marketing administration and planning. He became vice president of marketing in 1999 and vice president of marketing and sales in 2001.

A Vietnam veteran, Deyling completed the physician assistant program at Cuyahoga Community College, Cleveland, Ohio; earned a baccalaureate degree in human services from Thomas Edison College, Princeton, N.J.; and an MBA in marketing from Cleveland State University. He coaches youth soccer and is active in charity work through his church.
