S.C. Cable Television Association Foundation awards grant to Senior Resources’ Foster Grandparent program

June 25, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – The S.C. Cable Television Association Foundation awarded a grant of $2,500 to Senior Resources in support of the Foster Grandparent program during the 2014-15 academic year.

The Foster Grandparent program places senior volunteers in local classrooms to mentor and tutor at-risk students. The program has a long history of improving student achievement, promoting self-confidence and positive behaviors, and fostering intergenerational relationships in the community.

“The support shown by the S.C. Cable Television Association Foundation comes at a critical time of funding cuts to the Foster Grandparent program,” said Senior Resources’ Executive Director Pam Dukes. “We have a waiting list of seniors who want to serve their communities, and we have many schools who would like to add the program. Grants such as these allow us to foster these community partnerships.”

The S.C. Cable Television Association Foundation was formed in 1997 as the philanthropic arm of the S.C. Cable Television Association. The foundation provides financial support to educational programs throughout the Midlands.

“The foundation is interested in bridging the digital divide in schools across South Carolina, but we are also interested in how the Foster Grandparent program bridges a generational divide,” said SCCTA Executive Director Ray Sharpe, who also serves on the board of directors for Senior Resources. “Both the senior volunteers and the students benefit from the time they spend together, and we are proud to support that effort.”
