S.C. Chamber statement following press conference on Senate Roads inaction

March 1, 2016

State Chamber of Commerce President Ted Pitts released the following statement after leaders of the business community from around the state joined together at the Statehouse to call on senators to pass a roads bill once and for all:

“Senators should refund taxpayers their salaries for a job not done. After no votes on roads last year and no votes on roads this year, it is becoming a waste of tax dollars to pay these senators. It has been 321 days since the House sent over a bill and they have taken zero votes. All the while, 825 people have died on South Carolina’s roads which are some of the most dangerous in the country. In the business world, you don’t get paid if you don’t do your job. Governor Haley and the House have put forth plans and if our senators aren’t willing to join them, let’s give taxpayers a refund. We shouldn’t wait another week, the time to start voting is now.”
