SAFE Federal Credit Union transforms digital banking, core systems, and member service

July 30, 2019

SAFE Federal Credit Union announced today that it has selected two of the nation’s leading technology companies to replace its digital banking and core processing platforms while expanding Call Center access.

With 16 branches and $1.07 billion in assets, SAFE will migrate next year to the Symitar Episys core system from Jack Henry & Associates Inc. for in-house processing. The credit union will convert in October to NCR Digital Banking for its online banking services.

“Our members deserve the improved service, innovation, and advanced digital banking options we will deliver through these changes,” said SAFE President and CEO Darrell Merkel. “This investment builds on SAFE’s commitment to family values and forward vision.”

SAFE’s technology upgrades are coupled with a 42% increase in the credit union’s Call Center hours. Launched in May, the expanded hours make SAFE’s Call Center accessible for 12 hours each weekday and for 4 hours each Saturday.

“We want members to have more options for personal, one-on-one access to our staff – even as we improve our digital banking services,” Merkel said. “Our members value the added convenience and we are glad to provide it.”

During the first two weeks of extended hours, SAFE’s Call Center served an additional 1,900 members.

Based in Sumter, SAFE Federal Credit Union serves more than 126,000 members and is one of the largest financial institutions headquartered in South Carolina.
