Samsung honors veterans and military families in partnership with American Legion Posts 24 and 219

On Saturday, Samsung Electronics Home Appliance America (SEHA) hosted the 3rd Annual Veterans Day Luncheon at Speers Street School in Newberry, South Carolina. The event was in conjunction with American Legion Posts 24 and 219. Veterans and their families socialized, enjoyed a free meal, and entered to win Samsung appliances.

Families who attended the luncheon entered to win a Samsung washer and dryer and heard from the President of the Samsung Newberry facility (SEHA) along with speakers from the American Legion and the University Of South Carolina School Of Law. Community members were also asked to make a small donation to support their local veterans. All donations received went directly to the local American Legion Posts.

“It is important to us to give back to our local veterans because they have sacrificed so much for all of us,” said Megan Pollock, Vice President of Strategic Communications for SEHA.  “As a company with South Korean roots, our relationship with the U.S. military is part of our very foundation. Without American support on the battlefield and in the massive rebuild efforts that followed, the Korea of today would not exist, and neither would Samsung.”

Samsung is proud to work closely with the American Legion to support and improve the lives of veterans in South Carolina. Veterans are not only a valued member of the community, but treasured employees at Samsung. This event came on the heels of Samsung’s $100,000 donation to the Columbia Fisher House, an organization that that builds homes where military and veteran’s families can comfortably stay free of charge, while a loved one is in the hospital.

“Veterans are a great fit at Samsung because they already know how to work independently as well as within a structured unit or team,” said Sherri Satterfield, Director of Human Resources for SEHA. “At Samsung, we value their skills, personal accountability, dependability, and perseverance to get the job completed.”
