Sanitary Market Offers Weekly Fresh Seafood Through Thursday Text List

July 27, 2026

Laurens County customers looking for fresh seafood without a trip to the coast now have a standing option each week at Sanitary Market.

The downtown Laurens market runs a weekly fresh seafood program built around a simple schedule. Every Thursday evening, Sanitary Market sends a text message to customers on its seafood list with that week’s available catches and prices. Customers reply with their orders by 8:30 a.m. Friday, and the seafood is delivered fresh that afternoon.

The early cutoff gives the market time to compile the orders and submit them to the seafood company by 9 a.m., which is what makes the same-day turnaround possible.

“Wait, you didn’t know we do fresh seafood every week?” owner Ryland Culbertson said. “There’s no guessing and no frozen mystery fish. You see the list Thursday night, you order what you want and you have it in your hands Friday afternoon.”

Everything on the list arrives fresh, never frozen. A recent week’s list included shrimp at $18.99 per pound, catfish at $14.99 per pound, cod and king clip at $20.99 per pound, wahoo at $26.99 per pound, mahi at $34.99 per pound, flounder and tuna in the upper $30s and black grouper at $49.99 per pound. The list also carried salmon in Chilean, Canadian and Scottish varieties, several snapper options, whole and filleted branzini, halibut with skin on or off, and Virginia oysters by the bushel at $89.99. Selection and pricing change from week to week depending on what comes in.

Customers order only what they want, and there is no commitment or subscription required. Payment is handled through Square payment links sent by text, so orders can be paid online before pickup.

Sanitary Market also offers a second pickup location for customers who cannot make the drive into Laurens. Orders can be picked up Friday afternoons at The Lumberyard in Clinton. Customers who want the Clinton option simply include the word “Clinton” in their text order.

Pickup times in Clinton are typically after 4 p.m., though the exact hour can shift depending on when the fish arrives and how long it takes to pack orders.

To join the list, customers can text 864-892-1010 with their name, phone number and the message “Add me to the seafood list.” Once added, they will receive the fresh catch list each Thursday.

Sanitary Market is located at 124 E. Public Square in Laurens. The market is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. The market is closed Sunday.
