June 10, 2015

COLUMBIA, SC – Santee Cooper selected M. B. Kahn Construction Company to construct the Lake Moultrie Phase II Reliability Improvements at their Regional Water System Facility located in Moncks Corner.

After extensive evaluation and collaboration, M. B. Kahn and Santee Cooper have partnered to proceed with the renovation and expansion of their facility. When complete, the plant will have the ability to produce up to 42 million gallons of drinking water per day, a 30 percent increase over current capacity. Additionally, the existing 22 year old facility is being upgraded to insure reliability of the system. The water produced from Santee Cooper’s regional plant is sold wholesale to the Lake Moultrie Water Agency, which is comprised of the Berkeley County Water and Sanitation Authority, the City of Goose Creek, the Moncks Corner Public Works Commission, and the Summerville Commissioners of Public Works.

“This $31 million project reflects a continuing relationship between Santee Cooper and M. B. Kahn which has existed for many years. It’s exciting to be involved in a project which will provide drinking water to several different municipalities and have a positive economic impact on the areas they serve. We anticipate 100-130 jobs during our peak activity, which is expected to last two years,” said Bill Edmonds, Executive Vice President of M. B. Kahn’s Water Works Group.
