NBSC executive brings additional business acumen to board leadership

COLUMBIA, SC – On Monday, July 14th the Capital City Club Board of Governors unanimously elected Sara Fisher as Chair. She replaces outgoing chair Luther Battiste of Johnson, Toal & Battiste, P.A.

Sara Fisher is the senior executive vice president and chief operating officer of NBSC.  Fisher joined NBSC in 1993 and was promoted to her current position in December 2003.  She currently serves on the Board of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce and the Palmetto Health Alliance.  She is also on the Board of the South Carolina Bankers Association and the ETV Endowment.  Previously, she has served as the chair of the SC Independent Colleges and Universities.  In 2013, she was selected by the Girl Scouts of South Carolina as a “Woman of Distinction.”

“We are thrilled to have someone of Sara’s caliber to chair the Capital City Club Board of Governors,” said General Manager Roy Robinson. “Not only does she bring her business acumen to the table, she also brings a unique perspective that is so crucial for a business club’s success.”

Fisher is very excited about her new leadership role at the Club.

“The Capital City Club is a vibrant part of downtown and the local business community,” she says. “It’s simply the hub of what’s going on in Columbia.”

Luther Battiste, who made history by becoming one of the first two African-Americans elected to Columbia City Council, was Chair of the Board for so long that no one at the Club can remember when he wasn’t the chair – even himself.

“It was a privilege for me to serve as Chair of the Capital City Club Board,” he says. “I followed a distinguished group of prominent Columbia leaders. It was an honor to lead a Club that was formed to promote diversity and equal opportunity and has such an outstanding membership. I am delighted to be succeeded by a person as accomplished in the business and civic world as Sara Fisher.”
