SC Alliance to Fix Our Roads Backing local State Senators

January 19, 2016

The South Carolina Alliance to Fix Our Roads will step-up its public information campaign in the Lexington area, supporting state senators who are working to find long-term funding that will fix and improve South Carolina’s highway system. The campaign will highlight the additional cost SC drivers endure from driving on bad roads as well as encourage citizens to support their state senator’s efforts to find solutions.

SCFOR Executive Director, Bill Ross, states that, “Out-of-state groups are funding misinformation to confuse South Carolina voters and intimidate our elected officials out of voting on good, long-term policy. These groups attack our legislators who are willing to solve problems instead of avoiding them.”

South Carolina drivers endure additional cost every day from driving on bad roads, as much as $3 billion statewide annually due to higher vehicle operating costs, traffic crashes and congestion-related delays. This enormous figure breaks down to between $1,200 and more than $1,500 per driver in our state’s major urban areas every single year.

The SC Alliance to Fix Our Roads mission is to encourage highway users to stand firmly behind the legislature’s efforts to increase funding for the state highway system.

The South Carolina Alliance to Fix Our Roads is a non-partisan, nonprofit, educational statewide organization made up of business leaders, associations and chambers of commerce who believe that an efficient, effective and safe highway system is essential to South Carolina’s continued economic growth and quality of life.
