SC Automobile Dealers induct Scott Rizer of Walterboro to lead 2023-2024 year

Scott Rizer of Cooper Chevrolet GMC, located in Walterboro, SC, has been elected President of the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association (SCADA) for the 2023-2024 term. He was inducted on June 10, 2023, with the unanimous support of the SCADA franchised Dealer body. Rizer has served on the SCADA Board of Directors since 2004 when he was first elected as At Large Director. In 2007, he was elected as a Regional Vice President and became Treasurer in 2021, rising to 1st Vice President in 2022.
Born and raised in Walterboro, Mr. Rizer was introduced to the family automotive business early on. His grandfather’s uncle, C.F. Rizer, opened the Ford Dealership in Walterboro in 1917. Scott’s grandfather, C.M. Rizer, Sr. joined the business in 1934, and Scott’s father, Donald S. Rizer, worked at the Ford store until he founded Rizer Chevrolet Oldsmobile in 1982. Scott began his automotive career at the Ford Dealership as a teenager, working in cleanup and parts.
After earning his degree in Finance from the University of South Carolina in 1988, Scott began working full-time at Rizer Chevrolet Oldsmobile. He became the Dealer Principal in 2003 and added the Pontiac Buick and GMC franchises in 2008. Earlier this year, Rizer Chevrolet GMC was purchased and established as Cooper Chevrolet GMC, where Scott is both General Manager and Authorized Representative.
Scott and his Wife of 33 years, Donna, have two children, Emma Rizer of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Donald Rizer of Washington D.C. Scott serves his church, Bethel United Methodist Church, in a multitude of ways, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Bonnie Doone Corporation, US Land and Timber, and the Bank of the Lowcountry. Additionally, Scott has been honored as the Lower Coastal Member of the Year for the South Carolina Waterfowl Association and is also involved in Leadership Colleton, the Colleton Business Alliance, and the Edisto Beach Loggerhead Turtle Project. Scott is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hobbies including inshore and offshore fishing, playing golf, hunting, shooting sporting clays, and watching and cheering on the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
Other Officers elected to the SCADA Board of Directors for the new term are 1st Vice President Richard Pendarvis of Pendarvis Chevrolet in Edgefield and Treasurer Joe Trainor of Stokes-Trainor Chevrolet Buick GMC in Newberry.
The 5 Vice Presidents for the SCADA Board of Directors are Fred Caldwell of Fred Caldwell Chevrolet in Clover, Robert Burns of Burns Ford in Lancaster, Robert Crews of Crews Chevrolet & Crews Subaru of Charleston, David Walters, Jr., of Jones Ford in North Charleston, and David Bunch of Hughes Motors in Charleston.
The South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association (SCADA), founded in 1937, is the only statewide lobbying force in South Carolina dedicated to the economic and political interests of the owners of automobiles and the Dealers of new cars and trucks. SCADA represents new car and truck franchised Dealers across the state of South Carolina and advocates on behalf of its members and consumers of automobiles in public policy, regulatory issues and economic development impacting the automotive industry. SCADA works to forge meaningful and mutually beneficial relationships between auto Dealers and their local, state and federal representatives.
