SC Bar Foundation Awards More Than $68,000 to Midlands’ Organizations

COLUMBIA, SC – October 6, 2009 – Richland County CASA, an organization that advocates for abused and neglected children in Richland County Family court, was awarded $10,000 to host a statewide child welfare collaboration workshop. Sistercare offers legal representation at no cost to Midlands’ battered indigent women and their children. The $21,250 grant covers a portion of the personnel costs for the advocacy team. To learn more about Sistercare, call 803-296-0505.

The USC School of Law Pro Bono Program was awarded $37,700 to support its promotion of service ethics in law students through volunteer opportunities. Students can become volunteer mediators, serve at the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program or assist the Hispanic community with locating legal resources.
