SC Bar Foundation Director Begins Second Term as President of National Organization

August 21, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – August 21, 2013 – Shannon Willis Scruggs, executive director of the South Carolina Bar Foundation, has been elected for a second term as president of the National Association of IOLTA Programs (NAIP).

During her first term, Scruggs worked to establish a legacy program so that retiring or departing IOLTA directors could document their thoughts for the leaders to come. She also created a working group to revamp the IOLTA website.

In her second term, Scruggs will continue plans to start a webinar program to help supplement the biannual meetings and to reach colleagues who otherwise might not be able to attend NAIP workshops.

It is an honor to work in this community of leaders who are so dedicated to improving the lives of people in their respective states and who are committed to sharing insight and information so that what works in one location can be replicated to benefit people across the country, said Scruggs.

Established in 1986, NAIP works to enhance legal services for the poor and the administration of justice through the growth and development of IOLTA programs.

Scruggs earned her undergraduate degree from Wofford College and an MBA from the University of South Carolina. She has been with the SC Bar Foundation for 13 years. At the Foundation, she manages all aspects of the IOLTA program and leads the Foundation in its role as the only statewide entity that funds legal aid and educates the public about the civil justice system.

In addition to serving as president of the NAIP board, Scruggs is an active member of the National Conference of Bar Foundations. She was honored as a member of the 20 Under 40 Class of 2008 by The State newspaper and is a 2008 graduate of Leadership South Carolina.
