2012 Business Week Presented by South Carolina Cable Television Association


COLUMBIA, SC – April 10. 2012 – Student applications andsponsorships are being accepted for the prestigious South CarolinaBusiness Week, July 15-20, 2012. Each year, Business Week offers bright,young adults the unique opportunity to interact with business leadersand their peers to learn more about the ins and outs of a successfulcareer. Business Week 2012 is presented by the South Carolina CableTelevision Association (SCCTA), which was founded in 1971 as anon-profit trade association to advance the common interests of thecable industry in South Carolina.

“Business Week is just one program the South Carolina Chamber ofCommerce offers supporting a comprehensive approach to education andworkforce development in South Carolina,” commented Mary Anne Jacobs,SCCTA Board Member. “The South Carolina Cable Television Associationrecognizes the benefits of preparing South Carolina young adults for thebusiness environment. We are thrilled to sponsor the program andanticipate robust results.” 

Business Week contributes to the preparation of young adults for thebusiness environment by introducing them to the principles ofleadership, teamwork and the American free enterprise system whilepromoting self-reliance, individual responsibility and entrepreneurship.During the week, teams of students develop mock companies, led bycompany advisors loaned from some of South Carolina’s most successfulbusinesses. Students attend workshops to learn about all aspects ofbusiness and test their newly acquired knowledge in a businesssimulation designed to achieve a real company feel with challenging,real-world situations. Along with an emphasis on teamwork and leadershipskills, Business Week includes programs on the stock market, ethics inbusiness, leadership profiling, the significance of diversity inbusiness and entrepreneurship. 

“Business Week gives business leaders the unique opportunity to teachstudents what to expect in the business world,” said Otis Rawl,president and chief executive officer of the South Carolina Chamber ofCommerce. “By giving these students the experience of running their ownmock companies, they are preparing for the choices they will make asfuture business leaders.”

South Carolina sophomores, juniors and seniors in the top one-third oftheir class who possess demonstrated leadership skills through schooland community activities are encouraged to apply for Business Week byfilling out a 2012 application. Applications are available at www.scbusinessweek.com.
