SC Cancer Alliance invites local salons to join statewide health outreach

October 14, 2026

The South Carolina Cancer Alliance is calling on local salon owners and independent beauty professionals to participate in a statewide health initiative aimed at raising awareness for breast and cervical cancer prevention.

The initiative, known as the Pink Palmetto Project, leverages the trusted relationships between stylists and their clients to deliver crucial health education and encourage early screening.

Now entering its second year, the program has already engaged nine salons across eight South Carolina counties, reaching more than 580 women through direct outreach and in-person educational events in Anderson and Orangeburg counties.

Organizers are looking to expand the project’s footprint into additional communities across the state. Participating salons and stylists receive free training and educational materials on cancer prevention, access to Women’s Health Circle Lunch & Learn events, ongoing organizational support, and recognition as official community health partners.

Applications for the upcoming cycle are open to licensed salon owners and independent stylists through Friday, Oct. 16.

Interested beauty professionals can submit applications through the Pink Palmetto Project Application Portal or contact program coordinator Brenda Thorpe at [email protected] for more details.
