SC Chamber of Commerce Calls on Legislature to Use Additional Revenue for Infrastructure

COLUMBIA, SC – With the recognition of an additional $400 million in revenue to the state’s coffers, the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce, the unified voice of business, is calling on the General Assembly to spend at least half of the expected surplus on the state’s infrastructure. This new revenue provides an opportunity to address some needs.
“As the General Assembly debates how to spend this additional $400 million in revenue, it is imperative that a majority of it be allocated to South Carolina’s most pressing need: our state roads and bridges,” said Ted Pitts, president and CEO of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. “The business community started the legislative session hopeful that the General Assembly would achieve a sustainable, comprehensive funding plan for infrastructure. Though not comprehensive or sustainable, this investment would be another step towards bringing our infrastructure to a suitable condition versus doing nothing.”
