SC Department of Education Statement on New CDC Recommendations

July 27, 2021
Breaking News from the SC Department of Education (7/27/2021):
Today, the CDC announced that they are recommending universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status.
In South Carolina, the General Assembly adopted a budget proviso as part of the 2021-2022 General Appropriations Bill that prevents school districts from requiring face coverings in schools. This means that while the use of face coverings and other COVID-19 mitigation strategies may continue to be encouraged in accordance with public health recommendations, South Carolina public schools will not be adopting the CDC’s recommendations for required mask use.
