SC High School Entrepreneurs Rival to Win Cash and Chance to Compete in New York City

May 27, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC – Eighteen high-school students from around South Carolina will go head to head June 17th for the 4th annual YEScarolina State Business Plan Competition presented by the Mark E. Motley Foundation. Seven of the students are traveling from outside the tri-county area to compete at the competition, hosted at the College of Charleston School of Business.

“Money is the carrot that helps get the students interested in learning about entrepreneurship,” said YEScarolina Founder & President, Jimmy Bailey. And seed money is exactly what the students are competing for! First place will walk away with $3,000 plus an all-expenses paid trip for the opportunity to pitch their business at the NFTE National Challenge in New York City this Fall. One of South Carolina’s own will have the chance to win the top prize of $25,000. However, all the students agree it is more than just the money. They talk about what a life changing experience it is to stand in front of a panel of judges, pitch your business idea, and be able to network with other competitors and business owners. In the past ten years, YEScarolina has provided entrepreneurship training to more than 750 teachers around the state, which in turn means over 15,000 students have written a business plan. Time and time again, YEScarolina students boast about the life relevant skills and confidence they’ve gained through their entrepreneurship class and the YEScarolina business plan competitions.

The public is invited to watch the final round of the business plan presentations on Wednesday, June 17th at 5:45 PM in the Wells Fargo Auditorium at the College of Charleston School of Business. Immediately following the competition, YEScarolina will host a reception to celebrate the winners and a student expo presented by SunTrust with hors d’oeuvres and refreshments by Hall’s Chophouse.

Drum roll please…Who will win the big check?!
