SC Philharmonic to receive $20,000 award from the National Endowment for the Arts

January 15, 2025

The South Carolina Philharmonic announced it has been approved by the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) for a Grants for Arts Projects award of $20,000. This grant will support the orchestra’s Family Time with the Phil and Symphony for All programs. Family Time with the Phil is the SC Phil’s inclusive concert-matinee that invites audiences to sing, dance, and enjoy the symphony without the expected barriers of a live performance on March 30th, 2025. Symphony for All is an outreach program that provides live music in public school special education classrooms. The NEA will award 1,127 Grants for Arts Projects awards nationwide totaling more than $31.8 million as part of the recent announcement of fiscal year 2025 grants.

“The NEA is proud to continue our nearly 60 years of supporting the efforts of organizations and artists that help to shape our country’s vibrant arts sector and communities of all types across our nation,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “It is inspiring to see the wide range of creative projects taking place, including the South Carolina Philharmonic.”

“We are honored to receive NEA funding to create and support our inclusive and sensory-friendly programs,” said Executive Director Rhonda Hunsinger. “We want to increase accessibility for all and can now reach families that otherwise would never have the opportunity to experience the transformative power of live orchestra music.”
