SC Young Lawyers Recognized at ABA Annual Meeting

CHARLESTON, SC – August 8, 2012 – William R. (Will) Johnson, an associate attorney with Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd, P.A., addressed the American Bar Association’s Young Lawyers Division (YLD),at the Bar’s annual meeting on August 4, in Chicago, where he announceddetails for the 2012 fall conference to be held in Charleston, SouthCarolina.  The SC Bar Young Lawyers Division (YLD) wasalso the winner of five prestigious Awards of Achievement at themeeting, including first place for Minority Service Project, Service tothe Public and Newsletters, and second place for Service to the Bar andComprehensive Projects and Programs.

As the South Carolina BarYLD’s president-elect and co-chair of the conference’s host committee,Johnson encouraged young lawyers nationwide to attend the American BarAssociation’s Young Lawyers Division’s Fall Conference in Charleston,SC, on October 18-20.  A host committee co-chaired by Johnson andRebecca Roser, an associate attorney with Robinson, McFadden &Moore, PC, and the immediate past president of the South Carolina BarYLD, has worked to secure over $45,000 in sponsorships to support the SCBar YLD’s efforts to provide a top-notch conference.

The SC BarYLD anticipates that over 200 young lawyers will attend the conference,based at the Francis Marion Hotel.  The conference will feature severalof the state’s most distinguished attorneys, including Chief JusticeJean Hoefer Toal, the recipient of the Margaret Brent Women Lawyers ofAchievement Award from the ABA’s Commission on Women in the Professionin 2004, and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley.  Events will culminate with agala on Friday, October 19, at the Charleston Aquarium.

The SC BarYLD leadership plans to showcase the programming and service work ofthe state’s young lawyers.  The conference also provides acost-effective way for the state’s young lawyers to attend a nationalevent and interact with fellow young lawyers from across the country. 

Johnsonjoined Haynsworth Sinkler Boyd in August 2006.  A business lawyerconcentrating on tax and economic incentive matters, he has been named  as one of “The Rising Stars” for Tax in Columbia by South Carolina SuperLawyers magazine in 2012; he was honored also as one of 10 “EmergingLegal Leaders” by South Carolina Lawyers Weekly (2011), and named “YoungLawyer of the Year” by the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division(2010).
