SCANA Elects New Member to Board of Directors

COLUMBIA, SC – July 30, 2009 – SCANA Corporation (NYSE: SCG) announced today the election of Joshua W. Martin III, a partner at the law firm of Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP, to its Board of Directors.
SCANA’s Board of Directors voted on July 30, 2009, to increase the size of the SCANA Corporation Board from 11 to 12 members. The Board elected Martin to serve in the newly created seat in Class II until the next annual meeting of shareholders at which time the Board plans to propose him for election by the shareholders.

Martin, a native of Columbia, S.C., spent his formative years in the Wheeler Hill neighborhood where his parents were active in urban development. Martin received his primary education in the Columbia public school system, graduating from Booker T. Washington High School in 1962. In 2005, Martin became a partner at the Delaware-based law firm of Potter Anderson & Corroon LLP. He concentrates his law practice on mediation and arbitration and on business counseling, particularly in the areas of telecommunications, public utilities and governmental relations. He is chairman of Potter Anderson’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
From 1996 to early 2005, Martin was president and chief executive officer of Verizon Delaware Inc. and its predecessor company, Bell Atlantic Delaware Inc. Prior to joining Verizon Delaware in 1990 as vice president, general counsel and secretary, Martin was a Delaware Superior Court Judge for eight years. He served on the Delaware Public Service Commission from 1978 to 1982, including three years as chairman. After obtaining his law degree from Rutgers University School of Law, Martin joined Hercules Inc. where he was a patent attorney until 1982. With a bachelor’s degree in physics from Case Institute of Technology, he began his professional career as a physicist at the DuPont Company in 1966. His education also includes completion of the Wharton School Executive Development Program. He holds honorary degrees from Widener University and Goldey-Beacom College.
In January 2009, Martin was appointed by Delaware Gov. Jack Markell to chair the state’s Economic & Financial Advisory Council. Martin is also a member of the CPR Panel of Distinguished Neutrals, the AAA Roster of Neutrals and the Board of Arbitrators-Financial Industry Regulatory Authority.
A leader in education as well as professional and community organizations, Martin is Director of Southwest Power Pool Inc.; Trustee, Winterthur Museum; Trustee and Director, Christiana Care Hospital System Inc.; Trustee Emeritus, Case Western Reserve University; Life Trustee, Goldey-Beacom College; Fellow, American Bar Foundation; former Director and Vice Chairman of the Nuclear Electric Insurance Ltd. (2000-2009); and former Director, PNC Bank Delaware (1990-2007).
Martin’s former community and professional activities include: President, Delaware State Bar Association; Chairman, Wilmington Renaissance Corporation; Chairman, United Way of Delaware; Trustee, Delaware Community Foundation; Trustee, Wilmington Friends School; Member , New Castle County Vo-Tech School Board; and Chairman, YMCA Black Achievers Program. Along with his wife, Cynthia, he received the prestigious United Way Tocqueville Society Award in 2006.
