ScanSource Conference Has Nearly $1M Economic Impact

March 18, 2015

GREENVILLE, SC – ScanSource, Inc., the leading international value-added distributor of specialty technology products headquartered in Greenville, S.C., kicked off its Worldwide Partner Conference in Greenville this week. Approximately 600 employees, manufacturers and customers from the regions in which ScanSource does business are expected to attend the four-day conference that focuses specifically on ScanSource’s Point-of-Sale and Barcode (POSB) business. Throughout the conference, participants will engage in a variety of business and leisure activities designed to leave an indelible impression of ScanSource and its hometown.

ScanSource has 42 offices throughout North America, South America and Europe. The ScanSource Worldwide Partner Conference gathers key customers and manufacturers from each of these regions to hear from ScanSource leadership about the business, new service and product offerings, while also providing opportunities for networking and sharing best practices.

“We are pleased to once again host our customers and manufacturers from across the globe,” says Buck Baker, president, Worldwide Barcode and Security, ScanSource, Inc. “We chose Greenville as the destination so we could give our partners a chance to visit our corporate headquarters — some for the first time — while also showcasing this great city.”

International Influence
The ScanSource Worldwide Partner Conference will draw visitors from North America, South America and Europe. The conference coincides with Upstate International — the month-long celebration of the Upstate’s international influence — providing proof of the global effect local companies such as ScanSource have. Many attendees traveling from abroad are visiting Greenville for the first time, so ScanSource event organizers have worked closely with local suppliers and VisitGreenvilleSC officials to help ensure a positive experience for all.

“It is clear that our local hospitality industry is well-equipped to handle the needs of international visitors,” says ScanSource, Inc. Vice President of Worldwide Marketing, Christy Thompson. “Any time we can show off our beautiful city, we gladly jump at the opportunity.”

Economic Impact
According to VisitGreenvilleSC, the estimated economic impact of the ScanSource Worldwide Partner Conference is nearly $900,000, affecting 230 jobs (see attached infographic). This is calculated from 1,507 hotel room nights; transportation costs to, from and during the conference; more than 4,500 meals; a variety of local recreational activities like golf, skeet shooting, and driving experiences; retail purchases and more.

The bulk of conference activities take place in downtown Greenville with the Hyatt Regency Greenville serving as the primary site of much of the business activity. However, many downtown hotels, restaurants, event venues and retailers will benefit from the influx of visitors attending the conference.

Partner Giving
While the conference is in town, an announcement will be made about a recent gift to the Mauldin Miracle League from long-time ScanSource partner ID Tech, a Cypress, California-based manufacturer of secure payment solutions, mobile payment, point-of-sale peripherals, and digital signage. As a demonstration of its partnership with ScanSource, ID Tech recently made a substantial unsolicited donation to the ScanSource Charitable Foundation, which will benefit the Mauldin Miracle League, a local baseball league for youth and young adults with physical and developmental challenges.

“The Mauldin Miracle League is incredibly grateful to ID Tech and to the ScanSource Charitable Foundation for its generous gift,” said Powers. “We’re a non-profit that relies solely on funding from public and private sources, and to have such a substantial gift come to us completely unsolicited is an extraordinary blessing.”

“Over the years, ScanSource has been fortunate to have many manufacturers and customers support our Foundation through generous donations of time, talent and treasure,” added Thompson. “ID Tech has again taken ‘partnership’ to a new level. Supporting the local community is a primary tenet of our corporate values and it is gratifying to know that what matters to ScanSource matters to our partners.”
