SCDNR to offer courtesy boat inspections during Memorial Day weekend
May 19, 2026The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) will offer complimentary boat inspections at public boat landings across the state during Memorial Day weekend, helping boaters confirm they have required safety equipment and proper boat and motor registrations before heading onto the water.
In Georgetown County, courtesy inspections are scheduled for Monday, May 25, from 9 am to 11 am at Carroll Ashmore Campbell Marine Complex Landing in Georgetown. The brief inspections are designed to identify safety or registration issues before launch. Boaters who are not in compliance will not be ticketed during these checks and will instead be given an opportunity to correct any issues.
Memorial Day weekend marks the start of the busy summer boating season in South Carolina, and SCDNR officers will also be available at inspection sites to answer questions and share practical guidance to help families stay safe on the water.
The agency encourages all boaters to use the holiday weekend as an opportunity to review basic safety practices, including carrying required equipment, confirming registrations are current and operating responsibly in crowded waterways.
To report boating violations such as reckless operation or an intoxicated boat operator, call the SCDNR toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 800-922-5431 or dial #DNR on a cell phone.
National Safe Boating Week serves as a timely reminder for South Carolina boaters to make safety part of every trip as waterways become more active over the holiday weekend and throughout the summer season.
