SCDOT’s Friday, Nov. 13, update on the flooding impacts in South Carolina

COLUMBIA, SC – South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) Interim Secretary Christy A. Hall has issued her Friday, Nov. 13, update on the transportation system in South Carolina.
Secretary Hall’s report has information including:
- State road closures are down from a peak of 541 (Oct. 5) to 78 (Nov. 13), an 86 percent decrease.
- SCDOT Maintenance forces have led the majority of the repairs, including initiating 3 bridge replacement projects with in-house forces.
- 24 highway/bridge contractors have been engaged to assist with 69 different “emergency/spot repairs” in 16 counties.
- Contractors have also been engaged on 10 bridge replacement or major bridge/culvert repair projects in 4 counties.
- Debris collected to date: approx. 1,635 loads (78,841 cubic yards)
- 18 of the remaining 78 road closures are expected to be re-opened by Thanksgiving.
- 9 primary routes remain closed.
- The SCDOT Call Center has resumed normal operations: 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. There have been over 3.5 million visits to the SCDOT Road Conditions webpage during this event.
