SCE&G Reaches Solar Power Milestone

SCE&G has reached a milestone for adding utility-scale solar power to its supply. The company today announced plans for a new solar farm in Jasper County being developed by Adger Solar, which is based in Bluffton, S.C.  The Jasper County project puts SCE&G “well ahead of schedule” to reach its goal of having 42 megawatts (MW) of utility-scale solar on its system by 2020.

Once completed, the new 10 MW Ridgeland Solar Farm, located in the Town of Ridgeland, will be the latest addition to the SCE&G utility-scale solar portfolio. In April, SCE&G announced the planned addition of six new solar generating facilities to its system, the equivalent of 36 MW. When completed, SCE&G’s utility-scale solar sites will produce nearly 46 MW of solar power in total, the equivalent of approximately 6,500 residential rooftop solar systems.

SCE&G opened its first utility scale solar facility in January 2016 under South Carolina’s Distributed Energy Resource Program Act (Act 236). The company also has interconnected more than 1,600 customer solar systems – including homes, businesses, churches and municipalities – since 2007, as part of its goal to develop 42 MW of customer-scale solar by 2020. In July, the company received an award by the South Carolina Solar Council for overall “contributions to solar.” SCE&G also has announced a partnership with Clean Energy Collective (CEC) to develop the largest utility-driven community solar program in the state and one of the largest in the nation.
