SCE&G releases customer service number for utility work on North Main Street widening project

Customer service line can be used for residents and business owners in the area who are impacted by the project

RICHLAND COUNTY, SC – South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) has begun working to install underground power lines along North Main Street as a part of the streetscaping efforts of the City of Columbia and Richland County. The utility expects to continue this construction work in phases along a 2.5 mile stretch of North Main Street through March 2017. Crews from SCE&G, Gregory Electric, Ivy Smith, Sumter Utilities and Foremost Pipeline will be working in the area. Crews will try to minimize impact to traffic and area residents when possible, and will notify electric customers directly about necessary power outages.

Area residents and business owners with questions about the project should call SCE&G’s customer service line at 800-251-7234. The utility work is being funded through the Richland County Transportation Penny Program as a part of the North Main Street widening project.

Installation of the duct bank will require one to two lanes to be closed throughout the duration of the project. At least two travel lanes inbound will be maintained during the morning peak hours of 7-9 a.m. and two travel lanes outbound will be maintained during afternoon peak hours of3:30 -6 p.m. Flagging operations will be used during non-peak hours of 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Travel lanes along Sunset Boulevard will be re-opened during morning and afternoon peak hours.
