SCE&G to release water on the lower Saluda River for swift water rescue training

SCE&G will release water from Lake Murray into the Lower Saluda River via the Saluda Hydroelectric Plant April 7, 8, 9, 15 and 16 to provide flows needed for the Columbia Fire Department to conduct swift water rescue training.
Water will be released each day beginning as early as 5 a.m. and continuing until as late as 5 p.m. Users of the Saluda River during these times are advised to use extreme caution.
“Safety is one SCE&G’s core values, and we embrace this opportunity to support the training of first responders whose work is essential to the safety of the communities we serve,” said Jim Landreth, vice president of Fossil Hydro Operations for SCE&G. “We ask recreational visitors on the Lower Saluda River to also keep safety top of mind during this time.”
Flows for these releases will be in the “yellow” range, as described on the Lower Saluda River website. Located at www.sceg.com/saludariver, the Lower Saluda River website provides information on current and planned releases from the Saluda Hydroelectric Plant. The page provides, as nearly as possible, real-time flow conditions on the river as well as links to helpful resources from the U.S. Geological Survey, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and American Whitewater.
SCE&G also offers a phone alert system on the website that people can subscribe to if they’d like to receive a phone call with an automated message alerting them when the plant is releasing water. Simply click the “register now” link and follow the instructions.
