Manufacturer of Precision Products Investing $163.8 Million to Expand, Creating an Expected 440 New Jobs

 

UPSTATE, SC -A company that develops and manufactures precision products for machines, equipment and vehicles as well as in aviation and aerospace applications is expanding its operations in three South Carolina counties – Chesterfield, Spartanburg and York. In total, Schaeffler Group USA is investing $163.8 million in the expansion, creating an expected 440 new jobs.

The North American operations, Schaeffler Group USA, is headquartered in Fort Mill, S.C. and is responsible for the engineering, production, sales and marketing of three major brands – INA, FAG and LuK.

Schaeffler Group USA’s Corporate Offices are located in York County.  Schaeffler also currently operates two plants in York County, both of which are located at 308 Springhill Farm Road in Fort Mill. The company currently operates three plants in Chesterfield County, one of which is located at 170 Calvary Lane in Cheraw, S.C. The company’s other two Chesterfield County plants are located on the same site at 301 Highway 1 South in Cheraw, S.C. Schaeffler’s Spartanburg County facility is located at 1298 New Cut Road in Spartanburg. Collectively, the firm’s Palmetto State operations focus on the manufacturing of bearings, bearing components, automotive components, motor elements, UniAir components, hydraulic lash adjusters, tappets, chains and precision and linear products.

The expansion of Schaeffler’s Chesterfield and York County operations will be achieved by adding on to its existing facilities as well as the purchase of new, upgraded equipment while the investment in the company’s Spartanburg County plant will result primarily in new equipment for the facility. All expansions are expected to be completed by the end of 2016. Hiring for most of the new positions is anticipated to take place this year. The Coordinating Council for Economic Development has approved job development credits related to the Chesterfield and York County projects.
