School District Five announces virtual community events on redistricting

November 23, 2020

Lexington-Richland School District Five will hold two virtual community events to answer questions on redistricting and get feedback from the community.

The first event was held held Thursday, Nov. 19 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event included live video featuring experts from Milone & MacBroom, the firm studying capacity and growth in the district. Questions can be submitted before the event or live during the event, using a Google form. Any questions not answered will be retained and answered at the second event, via the district’s redistricting email address or via our FAQ web page.

The second event will be a Dec. 3 Lunch & Learn from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.  Like the first event, there will be live video responses to questions. Members of the public can join the virtual public events at the following link: https://lexrich5.rev.vbrick.com/#/webcasts/forum. Engineering and planning firm Milone & MacBroom was approved by the Board in October 2019 to study capacity and growth in School District Five. The study by the company was prompted by growth in the Chapin area and a need to redistrict for the planned new elementary school in Chapin, but the firm’s study also examines capacity and growth across the district as part of that process. Any recommendations by Milone & MacBroom will be presented publicly to the School Board for implementation and approval.

During an October board meeting, officials with Milone & MacBroom shared preliminary redistricting scenarios to balance “enrollments across all school buildings to ensure efficient and equitable use.” The firm also announced a new interactive map, which can be utilized in addition to surveys, a web page and a dedicated email address which were launched this summer.
