SC Manufacturing Extension Partnership Expands Focus on Business Growth Services

COLUMBIA, SC – April 14, 2008 – The South Carolina Manufacturing Extension Partnership (SCMEP) has hired Chris Wayne to manage its growth and innovation services for the state’s manufacturers.

Wayne most recently worked for Kemet Electronics Corporation in Simpsonville.

“My goal is to enable small to mid-sized companies in South Carolina to achieve significant top-line growth through developing new products and services,” says Chris Wayne, SCMEP’s Lean Innovation Manager. “We do this by providing workforce training in concept generation, lean product development, innovation management, product portfolio management, strategic planning and other business growth tools.”

SCMEP continues to expand its services and stimulate the local economy by helping South Carolina businesses grow and create new products and services through managed, measurable and proven methodologies. Wayne has a long history in the manufacturing industry, including most recently with Kemet Electronics Corporation in Simpsonville, SC, where he was a Senior Engineer managing high-impact R&D projects. He also has worked with Reeves Brothers, Inc. in Spartanburg, SC; Datasouth Computer Corporation in Charlotte, NC; and Gaston County Dyeing Machine Company in Stanley, NC. He is a licensed professional engineer, certified PDMA New Product Development Professional, and Lean Six Sigma Green Belt.

SCMEP’s Growth Services help small businesses increase the number of breakthrough innovations, increase throughput of product portfolios by 15-30 percent, reduce project cycle time by 50 percent, and increase project on-time delivery to 90 percent or more.
