SeamonWhiteside completes work on Daniel Island Recreation Center

September 28, 2021

SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service land design firm with offices throughout the Carolinas, has completed its work on the Daniel Island Recreation Center, a 22,000 square foot and $10-million facility. The recreation center opened its doors last month and is the first city-owned indoor recreation facility to serve both the Daniel Island community and the surrounding, growing area. The new indoor facility is located next to Governors Park at 165 Fairbanks Dr.

The Daniel Island Recreation Center broke ground in September 2018 and includes a gym, multi-purpose rooms, office space and much more.

SeamonWhiteside worked closely with Rush Dixon Architects on the Daniel Island Recreation Center to finalize the master plan, which delivered an innovative and sleek design concept. The landscape architecture component focuses on practical design based on the community’s needs. “As the Daniel Island Recreation Center is a civic use for the City of Charleston, an experienced and collaborative team was paramount. SeamonWhiteside provided expertise in designing the site for a high-use public facility,” says Judy Dixon, owner and architect at Rush Dixon Architects.

Daniel Island Recreation Center is now open to the public between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
