SeamonWhiteside employee selected as lead project manager for Leadership Dorchester Class of 2022’s Landmark Project

October 26, 2022

SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm throughout the Carolinas, is proud to announce Civil Engineering Project Manager Aaron Schmitt, PE, as the lead for the Leadership Dorchester Class of 2022 project. Each year, Leadership Dorchester, an 11-month intensive and comprehensive study of the political, civic, economic, and social dynamics in action within Dorchester, nominates one class member to lead the initiative on a project that gives back to the community. Aaron led the Class of 2022 on their chosen project to provide a pavilion to Dorchester Heritage Center.

The pavilion is a unique way for the class to bring attention and a safe outdoor space to the new Dorchester Heritage Center Museum, which is expected to open sometime in 2024. The 14′ x 20′ public pavilion was unveiled to the community this past weekend.

“As the youngest in my class, I was honored to be chosen as the leader of our class project. Deciding to partner with the Dorchester Heritage Center allowed us to provide them with a beautiful pavilion and outdoor space to draw attention to their new piece of property and the future location of their building,” says Aaron Schmitt, PE, Project Manager at SeamonWhiteside. “Our class’s hard work and determination raised over $50,000 in cash and another $25,000 in gifts-in-kind, which included concrete, roofing, landscaping, and more. Now that we are nearing the completion of this project, we are thrilled to welcome the community to its unveiling.”

The Leadership Dorchester class, consisting of 25-30 members, has worked closely with the Dorchester Heritage Center on this seven-month collaboration project. The team hopes to leave the community and center with a lasting legacy.
