SeamonWhiteside triples fundraising goal for Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center in single day

SeamonWhiteside (SW+), a full-service site design firm throughout the Carolinas, has tripled its initial fundraising goal, donating a total of $1,400 to support Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center this season. The Dorchester Advocacy Center is a local 501c(3) nonprofit agency with the goal of providing a response to child abuse that provides treatment for the children and families in our community.

“SeamonWhiteside is always looking for ways to give back to our community,” says Mary Martinich, Land Architecture Team Leader at SeamonWhiteside. “Earlier this summer, a Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center representative came and spoke with our Women’s Initiative and we were all so inspired by the work they do. Together, we decided to get the firm on board to help fundraise. The passion and commitment we felt towards this cause allowed us to achieve and exceed our initial goal in a single day.”

SeamonWhiteside’s Women’s Initiative took the lead in this fundraising effort after learning about the center’s “Operation E.L.F.” aimed at Enhancing the Lives of Families. Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center relies on the generosity of local businesses, organizations, and individuals to supply the tools and treatment needed to serve children and families in the Lowcountry. This was the first year that SeamonWhiteside has put its philanthropic efforts towards the Dorchester Advocacy Center, and will continue to make annual contributions in the coming years.

All five of SeamonWhiteside’s offices participated in this fundraiser. The monetary donations were put towards the center’s “Angel’s Tree” initiative, which includes purchasing toys, games, and clothes on children’s wish lists. To tie up their partnership, employees then volunteered their time to participate in an office-wide gift-wrapping day.

Giving back to the local community is a core part of the “SeamonWhiteside Way,” which believes it is essential to grow their employees not only professionally, but also personally within the community through strong philanthropic traditions. The Dorchester Children’s Advocacy Center Fundraiser is one of many other charitable efforts in which the firm has participated this past year. Some additional efforts included the Lowcountry Heart Walk, the Carolina Brain Tumor Walk and Race, and donating their design services and volunteer efforts to Camp Happy Days.
