Secure Your Load, Protect Our Roads: June 6 is National Secure Your Load Day

June 4, 2025

It only takes one unsecured load to create a hazard on the highway or scatter debris along a country road. This June 6, Laurens County is joining the national effort to raise awareness for Secure Your Load Day — a simple but critical reminder to ensure that what leaves your vehicle stays safely secured until it reaches its destination.

Whether you’re hauling household trash, brush, or bulky waste, taking the time to properly secure your load helps prevent roadside litter, environmental damage, and dangerous driving conditions. Unsecured loads can lead to serious accidents and cost taxpayers thousands in cleanup efforts.

To help residents do their part, Laurens County is offering FREE tarps at Green Box sites throughout the county. Tarps are available in limited quantities and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis, so residents are encouraged to pick one up while supplies last. These tarps can be used to cover loads and keep debris contained during transport — a small step that makes a big impact.

“Don’t let your trash become someone else’s problem,” said Courtney Stonell, Keep Laurens County Beautiful Affiliate Coordinator. “A loose or uncovered load doesn’t just create litter — it puts other drivers at risk and damages the beauty of our community. Taking the time to secure your load is one of the easiest ways to show pride in Laurens County.”

Everyone has a role in keeping Laurens County clean and safe. If you’re planning a trip to the dump or hauling anything that might shift, fall, or fly out of your vehicle, take a few extra minutes to cover and secure your load.

Let’s work together to #KeepLaurensCountyClean.
