MONCKS CORNER, SC – Sedgefield Middle School was awarded a $6,000 grant from the Tides Foundation on the recommendation of Google Data Centers Grants Fund.

Three eighth grade teachers at the school wrote the grant and submitted it to Google Data Centers. Google then worked with the Tides Foundation to secure the money for the school. The grant will be used to buy Chromebooks and other essential accessories like power strips for the school.

Principal of Sedgefield Middle School, Shameka Washington, said, “The funding used to purchase the new technology will allow teachers to differentiate instruction and accelerate the intentional use of technology to promote 21st century skills.”

Since 2009, Google has awarded more than $1 million to South Carolina nonprofits and schools in the areas of science and technology education, renewable energy innovation and access to the Internet.

Since 1976, the Tides Foundation has worked with more than 15,000 individuals and organizations in an effort to make a positive impact on the world. These include foundations, donors, corporations, social investors, nonprofit organizations, government institutions, community organizations, activists, social entrepreneurs and more.
