See Spot Run Annual 5K Run/Walk to Benefit The Humane Society

COLUMBIA, SC – May 9, 2013 –  The Humane Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, which strives to end the overpopulation of unwanted animals by offering low-cost spay and neuter surgeries and investigates animal cruelty and neglect cases, announces that See Spot Run, the organization’s fourth annual 5K run/walk, will take place Saturday, May 18. See Spot Run will also offer a 1K-9 fun walk. Pet owners are encouraged to bring their pets on leashes with them to run or walk.

“Many pet owners and lovers, runners, walkers and Humane Society supporters look forward to this event each year,” said Wayne Brennessel, executive director of The Humane Society. “The funds raised from this race and fun walk allow the Humane Society to continue to offer low-cost spay and neuter surgeries that are affordable for all pet owners. These funds also support our animal cruelty investigations, making a safer environment for animals all over South Carolina. It’s a fun day for a wonderful cause.”

This family and pet-friendly run and walk starts from Earlewood Park (corner of Parkside and Earlewood Drives).

  • 5K Run/Walk: 7:30 a.m. start time
  • 1K-9 Fun Walk: 9 a.m. start time

See Spot Run offers runners and walkers disposable timing chips and gender-specific, moisture-wicking technical t-shirts for all runners who register in advance of the race. This year’s race will also feature separate starting corrals for runners, runners with dogs, walkers and walkers with dogs.

Registration is available at www.strictlyrunning.com and is $25 if your register before April 22. After that date, the registration fee increases to $30. On race day, registration will open at 6:30 a.m. and will cost $35.
