Self Regional to open new Cancer Center in April

April 11, 2011

GREENWOOD, SC – April 11, 2011 – An open house introducing Self Regional Healthcare’s newly constructed Cancer Center to the public will be held from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 12 at the front of the medical center.

The 18-month project involved approximately 40,000 square feet of new construction and renovation. The new Cancer Center will house all three of the hospital’s clinical cancer services—medical oncology, radiation oncology and chemotherapy – in a single area on the ground floor adjacent to the hospital’s main entrance.

The new $25 million Cancer Center includes a dedicated entrance for patients on the southeastern side of the hospital’s ground floor. Inside the Cancer Center, the medical oncology section will expand to 15 rooms to accommodate the program’s patients and three medical oncologists-Dr. Brian Hunis, Dr. Joanna Sadurski and Dr. Elena Vician.

In space nearby, Dr. John Funke and Dr. Clint Wood will treat radiation oncology patients. This area will retain its two linear accelerator vaults and one of the accelerators has been updated with newer technology. A specially designed room for breast cancer has also been added.

The Cancer Center’s chemotherapy area will include 32 beds and chairs, plus a chemotherapy pharmacy located in the center to help patients avoid delays.

Also featured in the new Cancer Center is an outdoor healing garden, central atrium, patient learning area, boutique for wigs and prosthetics, small café, business office, laboratory, tumor registry and offices for physicians and staff.

Current and former cancer patients, as well as other members of the community, are invited to the open house, which will include tours and refreshments.
