Senate’s End Hosts Smoke on the Water Barbeque Competition

COLUMBIA, SC – August 14, 2013 – Senate’s End, Columbia’s premier event space and the home of Dupre Catering & Events and 302 Artisans at Senate’s End (316 Senate Street), will host the second annual Smoke on the Water, a South Carolina Barbeque Association (SCBA) competition, on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013. 

Smoke on the Water offers free admission for a full day of tasting chili, barbeque, live music, Certified SC Products and more at Senate’s End on the banks of the Congaree River. 

This family-friendly event kicks off at 11 a.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. For the lunchtime crowd, samples of each of the 15 South Carolina barbeque competitors’ homemade chili are available for purchase and for the evening crowd, samples of each competitors’ ribs are available for purchase while supplies last. Barbeque sandwiches and other items will be available for purchase as well as beer and wine.

Fifteen barbeque competitors will compete at Smoke on the Water in the SCBA competition. SCBA judges will taste each competitor’s barbeque. Chili judging takes place at 11:30 a.m. and judging for ribs takes place at 5 p.m. When judging is complete, SCBA will award competition winners.

  • Hamburgers, hot dogs, veggie wraps, fish tacos, fries, salads, barbeque and beer and wine will be served all day. 
  • Certified South Carolina food products vendors such as Sallie’s Greatest, Carolina Creole, and Birnie’s Barbeque will be in attendance and offer their products for sale.
  • Bluegrass by Nashville’s Cumberland River Fly Boys. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and four-legged friends (on leashes) to enjoy a casual afternoon and evening of great food, music and more. Smoke on the Water benefits The Foundation for the South Carolina Commission for the Blind.
