The current State Senator, representing South Carolina’s District 44, announces his plans to run for re-election

Paul Campbell, the current State Senator representing District 44 (Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties), today announced his plans to run for re-election.

Campbell, a Republican who resides in Goose Creek, has served in the South Carolina State Senate since August of 2007. He’s known as a rock solid conservative and one of the most pro-job legislators at the South Carolina statehouse. Formerly he was regional president of Alcoa, global aluminum manufacturer with a plant in Goose Creek. Campbell says he’s running again because “we don’t have enough legislators with actual business experience.”

“Politicians in Columbia talk a big game but few of them know about getting real results in the real world,” Campbell said. “I do. When I talk about building a pro-growth environment with conservative principles, I know exactly what I’m talking about.”

Campbell says Columbia politicians have “reached an all time ridiculous high.” He says “these folks would rather argue and win some pointless game rather than help South Carolina’s working families. Sometimes I can’t tell if I’m in the Senate chamber or an elementary school classroom.” Campbell says he will continue his work to protect individual liberties, including the second amendment and the right to life. Campbell is also known as a hardliner against illegal immigration.

When the previous executive director of the Charleston International Airport quit, Senator Campbell stepped up, and has served as Director of Airports for the Charleston County Aviation Authority and Charleston International Airport since August, 2013. He has overseen the massive redevelopment of the Charleston airport.

Campbell is an engineering graduate of Clemson University with a long history of service to the community, including past leadership positions of Trident United Way, Leadership South Carolina, Coastal Council of Boy Scouts, the Summerville Rotary Club and the Berkeley, Charleston Metro and South Carolina Chambers of Commerce.

Senator Campbell is a married father of three children and an elder in his church.
