Seneca, S.C. Named Top Place to Start a Business in South Carolina

April 6, 2015

SENECA, SC – A recently released report from NerdWallet named Seneca, South Carolina as the “best place to start a business in South Carolina.” This distinction is based on criteria used to analyze local economic health and overall business climate.

NerdWallet, a personal finance and consumer advocacy website, examined communities across South Carolina that had populations over 7,000 and more than 500 businesses. The analysis looked at not only costs associated with business operations but also the unemployment rate, median annual incomes and average revenue of businesses.

“This is a great honor for not only the City of Seneca but also for Oconee County as a whole,” stated Glenn Buddin, chairman of the Oconee Economic Alliance. “A lot of focus has been placed into supporting economic development in the last 36 months as seen with over $150 million in new industrial related economic development projects but just as important has been the emphasis placed on helping all business types achieve success within our community.”

“This reaffirms why we call Oconee County the “geography of opportunity” and the reason why the golden corner of South Carolina is shining bright lately,” stated Richard K. Blackwell, executive director of the Oconee Economic Alliance. “Credit for this recognition belongs to our elected leaders all across our county in making the business climate ripe for growth, to the partnerships formed with our local Chambers of Commerce and the support from the Tri-County Entrepreneurial Development Corporation in making this area the best place to start a business in South Carolina.”
