Senior Resources extends partnership with the Columbia Housing Authority to provide meals to senior citizen residents

January 4, 2021

Senior Meals and Masks, a joint collaboration between Senior Resources and the Columbia Housing Authority that provides meals and masks to senior citizen residents on a weekly basis, will now extend through the end of February. This program began in August and provides 323 senior citizens that reside in four housing units through the Columbia Housing Authority with two frozen meals and a supplemental package of milk, fruit and a cookie.  The menu is carefully planned by our caterer, Iacafano’s Catering and Food Service, in consultation with a nutritionist, to meet one-third of the daily nutritional needs of senior citizens.

“Seniors continue to be at high risk for adverse health consequences from COVID-19 so it is vitally important to stay vigilant in our response to keep seniors safe and healthy,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “We are honored to provide nutritionally-rich, ready to eat meals for the senior residents of Columbia Housing.  These meals will help limit trips out to the grocery and provide them with balanced meals to keep them healthy and independent in the midst of a continued pandemic.”

“Columbia Housing is excited to provide its residents in the senior high rises with these nutritious meals and PPE,” said Ivory Mathews, Columbia Housing CEO. “During the COVID pandemic, these extra resources go a long way. This partnership with Senior Resources helps make it possible for us to provide the meals. Our partnerships with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control, Latino Communications; and Prisma Health help us replenish our supply of PPE for residents.”

With senior citizens being at the forefront of this worldwide pandemic, the need for services continues to increase.  At Senior Resources we are committed to helping as many seniors as possible with emergency food assistance and other support services.
