June 28, 2022

Senior Resources received a $10,000 donation from Aflac to support our Meals on Wheels program that provides home-delivered meals to homebound seniors in Richland County who are food insecure. As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, we are committed to providing our elderly neighbors the services they need to remain independent and healthy.

“Support for our work delivering meals to a seniors’ doorsteps has always been important, but it is especially true during this moment of increased costs for basic food, supplies, and transportation,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “Seniors are stretching fixed incomes and the meals they receive from this donation from Aflac will help stretch that budget a little further, while also receiving a nutritious meal and a positive daily social interaction with a volunteer.”

Senior Resources currently delivers hot and frozen meals to the doorsteps of over 600 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County. The meals are delivered to clients’ homes each day by Meals on Wheels volunteers, and they provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for these homebound clients. In additional to meeting their nutritional needs, our Meals on Wheels program also addresses the social isolation felt by many of our clients. The daily delivery from our volunteer serves as a wellness check, and a continued connection to the community through a friendly interaction with the volunteer.

Support from organizations like Aflac, enable us to continue our mission at Senior Resources empowering local seniors to live healthy and independent lives. Through services such as our Meals on Wheels delivery program, local seniors receive the daily nutrition that they need, even as we face food shortages, fear and isolation due to a global pandemic.
