Senior Resources receives donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation

July 28, 2022

Senior Resources today announced that the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has received a donation in the amount of $2,000 to help feed local neighbors in their time of need and serve the increased demand for home-delivered meals service in our community. Senior Resources will use the gift to support its Meals on Wheels program and ongoing efforts to eliminate hunger among seniors in the community. The funding will provide approximately 246 nutritionally-balanced meals to local Meals on Wheels clients. The meals are delivered to clients’ homes each day by Meals on Wheels volunteers, and they provide one-third of the daily nutritional requirements for these homebound clients.

“Unfortunately, food insecurity and isolation are a daily struggle for many homebound seniors in our community,” said Andrew Boozer, Executive Director of Senior Resources. “Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation’s donation is helping make sure seniors in need have not only nutritious meals but also daily interaction with our volunteers who deliver meals to their doorsteps. This combination of nutrition and socialization is critical to seniors remaining in their own homes as they age. We are thankful for this continued support to keep seniors healthy and independent.”

Senior Resources provides a continuum of services to the community, from delivering hot and frozen meals to the doorsteps of over 600 elderly and disabled residents of Richland County through Meals on Wheels, to providing door-to-door transportation to doctor appointments and other medical-related trips through Senior Wheels. The programs strive to provide services and resources that support aging in place. As the only provider of Meals on Wheels in Richland County, the program is committed to providing elderly neighbors the services they need to remain independent and healthy. The daily meal delivery from Meals on Wheels volunteers also serves as a wellness check and helps address the social isolation many clients feel. The meal delivered by volunteers is often the only meal of the day for Meals on Wheels clients.

This donation from Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation will allow Senior Resources to continue to fulfill the increased volume of meal deliveries and provide an environment to sustain this increase in demand.

The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $15 million in grants.
